Silver bracelets, women’s
One of the first metals used by man to make jewelry was silver. Women have adorned themselves with jewelry since ancient times. The first bracelets appeared in the Bronze Age.
The evolution of women’s bracelets
In ancient Egypt, men and women wore bracelets. Also very common were jewelry bracelets among the Asian peoples, where the bracelets were intricately decorated with stones that gave them color and glow. In ancient Greece, bracelets made their appearance during the Minoan era as women’s jewelry and were famous for their simplicity and elegance.
In the Middle Ages, with the strictness of clothing and because of the long sleeves, bracelets like jewelry almost disappeared. They reappeared during the Renaissance where the fashion of short sleeves prevailed. They became one of the most popular women’s jewelry of the time. Bracelets with gold clasps, with precious stones and pearls that gave color and shine.
Today’s bracelets
Bracelet is a piece of jewelry that today’s women wear every day. It can be worn around the wrist, around the arm or on the leg. There are plenty designs for all occasions and styles. Silver handcuffs, bracelets with large or thinner chains, enamel bracelets, bracelets with stones and pearls that give color and glow, bracelets with intricate designs or more simple. All of them can be worn in combination or individually.
The bracelets as amulets
Also in some cultures bracelets are worn as amulets. In Latin America “Azabache” bracelets are worn to protect against the evil eye. In Greece, on March 1 people wear a bracelet of red and white thread, so that the one who wears it avoids the burning of the summer sun. Similarly in Bulgaria at the beginning of March they wear a bracelet of white and red thread to thank “Grandma March” so that spring comes earlier.
Gold plated silver bracelets
The silver can be gilded with various techniques and has a yellow or pink color. With the term gilded we call the thin layer of gold that covers the silver. There is a special gilding technique that is only done on silver and is called vermilion. Using this technique, gold on silver does not wear out easily, unlike other gold plated techniques. This way we can have a silver bracelet that looks like gold, but is more affordable.
